Major road work on Summitview Avenue in Yakima starts on Monday. The project will resurface parts of Summitview Avenue and replace curb ramps and could impact the short  commute in Yakima. City officials say drivers will see lane closures on Summitview Avenue from 40th Avenue to 48th Avenue and 56th Avenue to 72nd Avenue during project 7:00 am to 5:30 pm on weekdays through the end of the month.

The work and the traffic impacts are expected to extend through Thursday, October 6th. Drivers are reminded the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.City officials say because of heavy traffic volume, drivers can expect delays in the project area. Access to homes and businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible.

Also on Monday a section of 16th Avenue will be reduced to one lane for a tree removal project at Milroy Park. A city news release says northbound traffic on 16th Avenue will be one lane between Browne Avenue and Lincoln Avenue during the work from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday. The sidewalk along that section of 16th Avenue will be closed during the project. “The trees are at the end of their lifecycle and have become a potential hazard to Milroy Park users as well as those traveling along 16th Avenue,” says Parks & Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson. Because of heavy traffic volume, drivers can expect delays in the project area. Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.
