I recently saw a Facebook post from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) that captured my attention by offering up an interesting statistic. It was a simple post that stated that it takes between 80 and 100 years for an aluminum can to decompose.

I had never really thought about how long it took for an aluminum beer can to disintegrate into nothing. I have seen plenty of them fade but I never thought about them turning into dust. The same post also stated that you should buy or collect firewood within 50 miles of where you plan to burn it.
